What is Thai Massage? Thai massage is believed to have been developed by Jivaka Kumar Bhaccha, physician to Buddha, more than 2,500 years ago in India. It made its way to Thailand, where the Ayurvedic techniques and principles gradually became influenced by traditional Chinese medicine. For centuries, Thai massage was performed by monks as one component of Thai medicine. Thai Table Massage uses techniques from traditional Thai massage which are adapted to working on a massage couch rather than the floor. This has advantages for both therapist and in particular for clients who may find getting up and down from the floor a challenge. This form of massage originally came from India during the Buddha’s lifetime, and spread across South East Asia along with Buddha’s teachings. It involves the therapist applying passive stretches and gentle pressure along the meridian lines. This releases toxins and wastes from the joints, muscles and connective tissue, and stimulates the internal organs through gentle pressure on various energy points. This is rhythmic massage, delivered whilst you are fully clothed and is an excellent way to release both physical and mental tension. It can be either soothing or relaxing depending on your preference. You should preferably come to sessions wearing loose, comfortable clothing such as jogging bottoms and a T-shirt.
What Does Thai Massage Feel Like?
Thai massage is more energizing and rigorous than more classic forms of massage. Thai massage is also called Thai yoga massage, because the therapist uses his or her hands, knees, legs, and feet to move you into a series of yoga-like stretches. Many people say Thai massage is like doing yoga without any work. Muscle compression, joint mobilization, and acupressure are also used during treatment. People describe Thai massage as both relaxing and energizing.
