Acne & Acne Scar Therapy – $150
Acne is a common skin condition caused by inflammation of the oil-producing sebaceous glands. When excess oil, dead skin cells, makeup and other pollutants become trapped within our follicles, they become infected which results in acne. Approximately 90% of adolescents and 25% of adults experience acne at some time. No treatment can eliminate acne forever. However, the technology for acne reduction has advanced in recent years. Treating acne and blemishes with Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) can deliver excellent results, especially on inflammatory acne and without the side effects of topical and oral acne medications.
In order to remove already active acne on/under the skin, Lucie’s MediSpa uses Sharplight’s acne head to create a chemical process generated and triggered by the 415 nm wavelength. This specific wavelength causes the destruction of the Propionebacterium Acne and the blood cells which feed the acne lesion. The prophyrins absorb light and in the photo-excitation process they release singlet (free radicals), which destroy the bacteria – therefore decreasing the number of inflammatory acne lesions by 60-70%. Blue and yellow wavelength (found in IPL applications) coagulate the small blood vessels, which feed the acne lesions. Reaction with the hemoglobin releases oxygen molecules that destroy the acne (blue light). In addition, dermal heating generated by the IPL also contributes to the reduction of acne.
In the days to follow your IPL acne treatment, you can expect to experience some mild flaking, unclogged pores, less sebaceous production (root cause of acne) and less papules and pustules. Final results are visible within the month following treatment, however it takes a full 90 days (3 months) to build new collagen.
It is also very important for our clients to understand as best as they can, what the sources or causes of their acne may be. To ensure the best results, encourage clients to help prevent the production and build-up of new acne.
Unfortunately acne too often leads to acne scarring. Therefore for clients who are looking to treat their acne we often combine their acne treatments with other types of therapies. Microdermabrasion and Erbium Fraction Laser Peel are both very effective treatments that will greatly diminish the appearance of acne scars.
